Industry Transformation Training
This 5-day training facilitates expert exchanges on effective decarbonisation policies and technologies to drive industry to net zero.
About our Training: Industry Transformation Training

Decarbonising the industry and power sectors is critical for achieving global climate neutrality, especially in regions where the industrial sector is expected to drive economic growth and a potential increase in emissions. Prompt action is required to direct new investments towards future-proof, low-carbon industry.
Despite its growing relevance, industry decarbonisation remains a relatively new field for many think tanks and civil society organisations engaged in climate policy. Experts from these types of organisations play a crucial role in shaping effective industrial transformation pathways, developing key strategies and policy recommendations to decarbonise industry at speed and scale.
Against this backdrop, Agora Industry is hosting a five-day training programme, designed for professionals from think tanks, civil society organisations and research institutes focused on climate and industrial transformation. The programme is designed to deepen knowledge, enable the exchange of diverse perspectives, build practical skills and support the development of effective strategies tailored to regional contexts.
Through peer exchange and Agora Industry expert-led content, participants will have the opportunity to identify or refine their strategic priorities and apply new insights to their industry-related work. The training also aims to foster collaboration to advance coordinated action on industry decarbonisation worldwide.
Our upcoming trainings
Agora Industry will host three industrial decarbonisation training cohorts:
- September 2025: INETTT-exclusive cohort.
- Spring 2026: Open-call cohort | 4 – 8 May in Berlin – Call for Applications is open until 16 November 2025 .
- Autumn 2026: Second INETTT-exclusive cohort – applications expected to open in spring 2026. Location to be confirmed
How to apply
The Call for Applications for the Spring 2026 open cohort, taking place from 4 – 8 May in Berlin, is open until 16 November 2025.
Applicants must submit:
- CV (max 2 pages)
- Motivation letter (max 600 words) outlining:
- Your personal and your organisation’s engagement with industry transformation;
- How the knowledge and skills gained from the training will improve your personal and your organisation’s future activities and impact.
We encourage applications from underrepresented groups in energy and industry policy. To ensure a diversity of participants, we take into consideration factors such as regional and gender representation. Please let us know if you anticipate any barriers to your participation such as disability access, childcare requirements or other needs. While we cannot guarantee a solution, we will do our best to accommodate candidates chosen for the programme.

What to expect
What to expect
This is a full-time programme for up to 12 participants and requires full attendance. Sessions build progressively to create a comprehensive and collaborative learning environment. The training will run from 9:00am to 5:00pm daily.
On completion of the five-day training programme, participants will:
- Be able to articulate and apply knowledge on context-specific industry decarbonisation pathways, particularly regarding the techno-economic aspects.
- Be equipped to critically assess and effectively communicate policy opportunities for advancing industrial transformation in their countries.
- Have identified or refined strategic areas to further develop industry-related work in their respective institutions to accelerate the shift towards climate neutrality.
Thematically, the training will support participants in engaging with:
- The big picture: The role of industry decarbonisation in the wider context of the transition to climate neutrality and how it links to the decarbonisation of the energy sector.
- Key industrial subsectors: Mapping transition pathways and opportunities for emission reductions in the steel, cement and chemical sectors.
- Important cross-cutting strategies such as energy efficiency, electrification, hydrogen, circular economy and carbon management.
- Policy instruments supporting the transition to climate-neutral industries, such as carbon pricing and demand side policies to initiate and scale up lead markets for circular and low-carbon materials.
- International trade policy: The role of strategic partnerships for clean value chains and carbon border adjustments for governing trade rules for green products.
- Social and key financial dimensions: The social implications and financial mechanisms supporting the shift to climate-neutral industrial production, ensuring a just transition.
Methods
The programme features a dynamic mix of interactive expert presentations, hands-on exercises, group work and facilitated discussions. Participants may be asked to prepare thematic contributions on specific topics which match their expertise to create a supportive environment of learning with and from one another. Sharing experiences and best practices from local contexts is highly encouraged.
Who is eligible
The training is open to professionals currently working for or affiliated with a think tank or civil society organisation working on energy transition and/or industry decarbonisation. The training primarily targets mid-career professionals with around four to six years of relevant work experience.
Priority will be given to applicants from developing and emerging economies who:
- Are actively engaged in public and policy debates on industry or energy transitions;
- Seek to increase their knowledge and institutional impact on the industry transformation in their respective countries/regions; and
- Plan to develop future industry transition projects or activities in their organisations.
As the training will be conducted in English, participants must have sufficient English language communication skills.
